URI to host neighborhood tick control demonstration May 14

Date: 5.14.2006

WHO: Nate Miller, a URI tick expert, along with other URI scientists and tick control experts.

WHAT: A tick control and disease prevention demonstration aimed at teaching the public how to eradicate ticks from their yards and reduce their risk of becoming infected with tick-borne diseases like Lyme disease. The event will feature a demonstration of how to create a "tick-safe zone� on your property, as well as tips for personal protection and protecting pets. Vendors of tick control services will be in attendance.

WHEN: Saturday, May 14 at noon.

WHERE: Brown's Farm Drive, Kingston

Awards are given annually in conjunction with Rhode Island’s Tick Control Awareness Day, to recognize individuals or groups who best demonstrate an effort or commitment in raising consciousness about ticks, their associated diseases, and especially taking action to prevent tick-borne disease.
