Tick - Any one of numerous species of large parasitic mites which attatch themselves to, and suck the blood of, cattle, dogs, and many other animals. |
The University of Rhode Island has a world-class research program focused specifically on ticks and tick-transmitted diseases. Unfortunately, there is no similar program for bringing the most promising tick control products and prevention solutions to the people and communities needing it most. A Tick-Borne Disease Outreach and Extension Research program would support trained outreach and extension research scientists, and use new interactive techniques to link people at risk with people and companies offering solutions to the tick problem.
We need your input NOW to demonstrate public interest in this serious public health threat. VOICE your concern by mailing the reply card. You can DEMONSTRATE the level of your concern by helping fund the Tick-Borne Disease Outreach and Extension Research program at URI. For gifts of $25 and more, we will send you an important first-line tool in preventing tick-transmitted disease a sharp tick removal tweezer, as a thank you for joining with us in this effort. Once a tick is biting, prompt removal (in the first 24 hrs) using a sharp tweezer is the best and safest way to prevent transmission of Lyme disease.
